Bluesky adds a setting to hide posts from algorithmic recommendations
What changed
On September 1, 2026 Bluesky Protocol Services described the Content Visibility Declaration, an app setting that writes a record to the user's repo asking apps to hide their posts from algorithmic recommendations. It does not need to be respected by list-based or topic-based feeds. Bluesky's Discover feed is the main example where it applies.
What it means
Posts from users who enable the setting should stay out of algorithmic feeds, which can reduce their reach in recommendation surfaces.
Who is affected
Developers of feeds and aggregators on Bluesky, and users or marketers who care about reach through recommendations.
What to do
Feed developers should read the app.bsky.actor.contentVisibilityDeclaration record and skip posts when hideFromAlgorithmicRecommendations is true. A missing record means false. The post asks for best judgment, not a hard deadline.
