LinkedIn Developer Portal shows OAuth refresh token usage and throttling per app
What changed
LinkedIn's October 2025 release notes (version 202510) say that starting in September the Developer Portal's Analytics dashboard includes OAuth Token Usage, which lets developers monitor refresh token requests made by their apps. The Developer Portal tools page says the table shows the percentage of quota used for generating access tokens via refresh tokens, the total allowed quota per app per day, and whether the app is Throttled or Not Throttled. The quota resets daily at 00:00 UTC. LinkedIn does not publish the quota number on these pages.
What it means
Developers can now see how much of their app's daily quota for minting access tokens from refresh tokens they have used, and whether the app is currently throttled.
Who is affected
Schedulers and analytics tools that keep many LinkedIn accounts connected by refreshing tokens in the background.
What to do by Sept 2025
Open the Analytics tab of your app in the Developer Portal, watch the OAuth Token Usage table, and spread token refreshes so you don't hit the daily quota.
What this means for you
To stay connected to your LinkedIn account, a posting app swaps an old pass for a fresh one now and then. LinkedIn limits how many fresh passes each app can get per day. App makers can now see in a dashboard how close they are to that limit. If an app goes over, LinkedIn marks it as throttled until the limit resets at midnight UTC.
The details
- Where: Developer Portal, your app,
Analyticstab, theOAuth Token Usagetable at the bottom. - What it shows: the percentage of the daily quota used for generating access tokens from refresh tokens, the total quota allowed per app per day, and a status of
ThrottledorNot Throttled. - Reset: daily at 00:00 UTC, with a countdown to the next reset.
- When: the October 2025 notes (version
202510) say the dashboard has had this since September 2025. It is a portal feature, so it does not depend on theLinkedin-Versionheader. - No number published: neither page states the quota itself. It is visible per app in the portal.
- Related: API call quotas have their own alerts at 75 percent; see LinkedIn rate limit alerts.
What to do next
- Business owners: Nothing. If LinkedIn keeps disconnecting in a tool, tell its support.
- Marketers and agencies: Nothing, unless many client accounts drop at once; then ask the tool whether it hit LinkedIn's token limit.
- Developers: Check the table, refresh tokens only when they are close to expiry rather than on a timer for every account, and alert on
Throttled.
