X documents media upload and post size limits tied to Premium status
What changed
On September 1, 2026 X documented that upload and post creation are enforced separately and limits depend on the posting user and media_category. Default accounts can post video up to 20 minutes and 8 GB; Premium or verified accounts up to 125 minutes and 16 GB. Direct message video limits are unchanged at 140 seconds and 512 MB, or 10 minutes and 1 GB for Premium. The entry states no deadline.
What it means
Maximum video length and file size depend on the posting user's Premium or verified status, not on the developer plan.
Who is affected
Scheduling tools that upload video to X, and users who schedule long or large videos.
What to do
Check the posting user's status before accepting long or large videos. A video longer than the user's cap returns HTTP 403, so validate duration up front.
