LinkedIn developer apps must be associated with and verified by a Company Page
What changed
The October 2024 release notes (version 202410) remind developers to associate each developer app with a LinkedIn Company Page to access the necessary features of the Marketing API products. The organization that owns the Page becomes the app's publisher. The developer sends a verification request, and the Page's super admin approves or denies it. The notes list this as a reminder and give no deadline, so the effective date is not stated.
What it means
A LinkedIn developer app needs to be linked to a LinkedIn Company Page, and approved by that Page's super admin, to get the features of the Marketing API products.
Who is affected
Anyone building or running their own LinkedIn integration: schedulers, agencies with in-house tools, and businesses that set up a private app to post or pull analytics.
What to do
In the Developer Portal, associate the app with your organization's Company Page and have the Page super admin approve the verification request.
What this means for you
Apps that post to LinkedIn are registered with LinkedIn first. LinkedIn wants each of those apps tied to a real company's LinkedIn Page, and the boss of that Page has to say yes. If you only use a ready-made scheduling tool, the tool's company does this, not you. If you built your own app, you need a Company Page and its top admin's approval.
The details
- Requirement: each developer app must be associated with a LinkedIn Company Page to access the necessary features and functionality of the Marketing API products (Community Management, Advertising and the others).
- Publisher: the organization that owns the selected Page acts as the app's publisher.
- Approval: the developer sends an app verification request to the Page's super admin, who approves or denies the association. Without a Page, you create one first.
- Timing: this appears under Reminders in the October 2024 release (version
202410), so it may have been announced earlier. LinkedIn gives no enforcement date on this page. - Detail pages: the release note links to LinkedIn Help Center articles on linkedin.com, which we don't read automatically. Check them by hand for the exact screens.
What to do next
- Business owners: Nothing if you use a scheduler. If you run your own app, ask your Page super admin to approve its verification request.
- Marketers and agencies: If you built a private LinkedIn app for a client, make sure it is verified by the Page of the organization that should appear as its publisher.
- Developers: Check every app in the Developer Portal shows a verified Company Page before you apply for Marketing API products.
