LinkedIn adds the Events Management API: create, schedule and manage LinkedIn Events from your app
What changed
LinkedIn's February 2025 release (version 202502) launches the Events Management API as a new API product. The /events endpoint gains CREATE, DELETE and PARTIAL_UPDATE methods under a new rw_events permission, while reading events needs r_events. Events get their own LinkedIn event page and are shared via a post to the Page's followers. Events can carry a custom registration form. The May 2025 release (version 202505) added a testEvent flag for private LinkedIn Live test events.
What it means
Apps can now create, update and delete LinkedIn Events (LinkedIn Live or external) for a Company Page, with an optional custom registration form, and then share them with the Page's followers through a post.
Who is affected
Schedulers, social media management and event tools that manage Company Pages and want to publish LinkedIn Events, plus agencies that run events for clients.
What to do by Feb 2025
Optional. To offer LinkedIn Events, request the Events Management API product in the Developer Portal and add the r_events and rw_events permissions to your OAuth flow.
What this means for you
A LinkedIn Event is a page for a webinar, live stream or meetup that people can sign up for. Before 2025, a company had to create these by hand on LinkedIn. Since February 2025, the apps companies use to plan their posts can create, change and delete these events too, and share them in a post. The app must ask LinkedIn for this extra access first.
The details
- Launch: version
202502(February 2025), as a separate API product called the Events Management API. The overview page lists it as self-serve: request it from your app in the Developer Portal. - Methods:
CREATE,DELETEandPARTIAL_UPDATEon/rest/eventsneed therw_eventspermission;GET /rest/eventsneedsr_events. - Who can act: both permissions are limited to organizations where the signed-in member is an
ADMINISTRATORorCONTENT_ADMINISTRATORof the Company Page. - Event types: LinkedIn Live events, events streamed on an external site, and in-person events.
- Publishing: creating an event does not show it to anyone. Per the Events API docs, you then publish it with the Posts API, using the live video URN or
urn:li:event:plus the event id as the post's content reference. - Registration forms: a custom form can be attached at creation only and cannot be edited afterwards. Creating the form itself needs Advertising API access.
- Test events (May 2025, version
202505): settestEvent: truewhen creating a LinkedIn Live event for an organization, and only that Page's admins (or people with the direct URL) can see it. Followers get no notification. The flag can only be set at creation. - Later changes: see LinkedIn Events API: endsAt required and no updates after the start.
What to do next
- Business owners: Nothing, unless you run LinkedIn Events; then ask your scheduler or event tool whether it can create them for you.
- Marketers and agencies: If you run webinars, check whether your event platform can push them to LinkedIn Events instead of retyping them.
- Developers: Request the Events Management API, add
r_eventsandrw_eventsto your scopes, and remember the follow-up Posts API call that makes the event visible.
