Later review 2026: Instagram-first social media scheduler

Updated 3 Nov 2026 · prices checked 2 Nov 2026 · source

Later is a good fit if most of your posting goes to Instagram and TikTok and you want a visual calendar and Link in Bio in one tool. The entry price is low, but Starter's 30 posts per profile and single user push active accounts to Growth. Look elsewhere if you need X or Bluesky, a public API, or approvals that stop unapproved posts from going live.

Best for

Instagram and TikTok first creators and small brands who plan visually and want Link in Bio included in the price.

Not for

Teams that post to X or Bluesky, need a public API or Zapier, or need an approval step that actually blocks publishing.

What it really costs

Typical setups, priced from Later's own pricing page. Taxes not included.

Pros and cons

Each point says how we know it: from Later's own documentation, or from a hands-on test with its date.

Pros

  • One social set holds one profile on each of eight networks (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Snapchat), so Starter covers a single brand everywhere Later publishes for $18.75 a month billed yearly. Documented · source
  • A drag and drop visual calendar, draft posts, saved captions and multi-profile scheduling are included on every plan. Documented · source
  • Link in Bio is on every plan, with unlimited buttons, up to 5 links per Instagram post, email collection, a Mailchimp form and no Later branding. Documented · source
  • Instagram coverage is deep: Auto Publish for feed posts, carousels, Reels and (for business profiles) Stories, plus first comments, collaborative posts with up to 3 collaborators, and Trial Reels for public profiles with 1,000 or more followers. Documented · source
  • Growing a plan is cheap: on Growth and Scale an extra social set is $11.25 a month and an extra user $3.75 a month at yearly rates. Documented · source
  • Growth adds approvals and an external comment workflow for stakeholders who don't have a Later account. Documented · source

Cons

  • No X, Bluesky, Mastodon or Google Business Profile. Later ended X support on August 28, 2025. Documented · source
  • Starter caps you at 30 scheduled posts per profile per month, and posts count when scheduled, including drafts and Instagram Story boards. Documented · source
  • Zapier is on Later's list of unsupported platforms and features, and the help centre documents no public API. Documented · source
  • Approval status doesn't stop a scheduled post: it publishes at its scheduled time unless it is saved as a draft or the user is barred from publishing without approval. Instagram Stories can't go through approvals at all. Documented · source
  • Paid plans are non-refundable and renew automatically, and the 14-day trial converts to a paid plan unless you cancel first. Documented · source
  • YouTube support is Shorts only: no long-form videos, no custom thumbnails, and no YouTube analytics in Later. Documented · source

Later is a good choice if Instagram and TikTok carry most of your social media and you want a visual calendar plus a Link in Bio page in one subscription. It costs $18.75 a month billed yearly to start, but the Starter plan's 30 posts per profile and single seat are tight, and Later has dropped X entirely.

Who Later is for

Later the company sells two things: Later Social, the scheduler reviewed here, and influencer marketing tools for brands, whose pricing is on request. This review covers the scheduler.

Later Social is priced by social set. One set holds one profile on each network Later supports: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Snapchat. A second Instagram account therefore needs a second set, not just a free slot.

PlanMonthlyBilled yearlySocial setsUsersPosts per profile a monthAI credits
Starter$25$18.7511305
Growth$50$37.502218050
Scale$110$82.5064Unlimited100

That shape suits a creator or small brand with one or two identities who posts mostly short video and images. It suits a text-heavy B2B team less well, because LinkedIn support is basic and X is gone. Qualified non-profits get 50% off the annual Growth plan.

Publishing, network by network

Later has two publishing modes. Auto Publish posts at the scheduled time. Notification publishing sends a push notification to Later's mobile app so you finish the post in Instagram or TikTok; it exists only for those two networks. Everything else is always auto-published.

  • Instagram (business or creator profiles; personal profiles are no longer supported): single images, carousels of up to 10 items with one caption, Reels and Stories. Stories auto-publish only for business profiles; creator profiles must use notifications. Auto-published Reels use original audio only and one video; trending audio, stickers, polls, links and music need notification publishing. First comment works only on auto-published posts. Instagram limits each profile to 50 auto-published posts in a moving 24-hour window. Facebook to Instagram cross-posting isn't supported.
  • TikTok: videos of 3 seconds to 3 minutes and photo posts (photo posts on desktop and iOS only). Auto-published posts use original audio only, so trending sounds again mean notification publishing.
  • Facebook: Pages only. Personal profiles, Groups and Stories are not supported. Text, image, video, multi-photo and Reels (4 to 90 seconds). A multi-photo post appears as an album, not a carousel, and location and user tags aren't available.
  • LinkedIn: personal profiles and Company Pages, captions up to 3,000 characters. Polls, tags and PDF documents can't be scheduled. Later's own pages disagree on whether personal profiles can post video and multi-image posts, so test that before you rely on it.
  • Threads: text up to 500 characters, images, video and carousels of 2 to 20 items. Not available on Android.
  • Pinterest: image Pins on any account; video Pins need a business account in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand.
  • YouTube: Shorts only, 15 seconds to 3 minutes, no custom thumbnails. Long-form video isn't supported.
  • Snapchat: video Spotlight and Public Story posts from desktop, captions up to 160 characters, and the profile must be public.

Not supported: X, Bluesky, Mastodon, Google Business Profile, Reddit, Tumblr and WordPress.

Planning, team and approvals

Every plan gets the drag and drop calendar, a visual Instagram feed planner, drafts, saved captions and hashtag suggestions. You can schedule one post to up to 10 profiles at once and adjust it for each, as long as the profiles sit in the same Access Group. Best Time to Post covers Instagram, Facebook and TikTok but not LinkedIn; seeing it for several profiles at once needs Growth.

Collaboration starts at Growth. Users are Owners, Reviewers or Members, and you can stop a Member from scheduling without approval. External reviewers can comment through a shared link without a Later account. Two catches: a post that is scheduled publishes on time whether or not anyone approved it, and Instagram Stories can't go through approvals at all. The shareable calendar link is Instagram only and expires after 48 hours. Approvals and the inbox work on desktop only.

Analytics and reporting

Every plan includes analytics for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, LinkedIn and Pinterest. What changes is history: 3 months on Starter, 1 year on Growth, 2 years on Scale. Pinterest stays at 3 months on every plan, and Starter's Instagram post performance shows the last 30 posts only. Instagram, Facebook and Threads data can be exported as CSV on any plan; LinkedIn export needs Growth. There are no YouTube or Snapchat analytics in Later.

Scale adds Custom Analytics, a cross-platform dashboard with filters, downloadable reports and scheduled deliveries, plus Meta Ads data next to organic results, competitive benchmarking for up to 20 Instagram competitors, brand mentions and sentiment.

The Social Inbox (Growth and up) handles DMs for Instagram and Facebook and comments for Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. Later labels it a beta.

API, AI and integrations

API: the help centre documents no public API, and Zapier is listed among unsupported features. Plan on manual or in-app workflows only.

AI: credits power Caption Writer (1 credit per generation) and Ideas (1 credit for 3 ideas). Starter's 5 credits a month amount to five caption requests. Caption Writer is a beta, English only, and uses a third-party model. Extra credits are 100 for $5 a month.

Integrations: a Canva app exports designs into the media library, Dropbox uploads are supported, and a Chrome extension saves images from the web. Google Drive can't be connected. Several Instagram features, including the inbox, location tags, hashtag search and Story analytics, still need the Instagram profile linked to a Facebook Page.

Link in Bio and creator features: Link in Bio comes with every plan, with buttons, linked Instagram and TikTok posts, email collection, Mailchimp and Google Analytics tracking. Creators can connect a Later Creator account (the affiliate side of the business) to add commission links to the page, build a media kit from Instagram and TikTok data on paid plans, and apply to brand campaigns.

Security: two-factor authentication by email or authenticator app. The SSO line on the pricing page means one login across Later products, not SAML single sign-on. Later links a Trust Center, but it didn't load for this review.

Limits and gotchas

  • Post counts bite early. Posts count when scheduled, drafts count, each Instagram Story board counts as one post, and the count resets on the 1st at midnight UTC regardless of your billing date.
  • Starter can't grow. No extra users or social sets on Starter; you have to move to Growth.
  • The trial takes a card. Checkout asks for card details and the plan starts automatically after 14 days. Plans are non-refundable, and removing an add-on mid-cycle gives no refund for unused time.
  • iOS subscriptions differ. Bought through Apple, prices are in local currency, add-ons aren't available, and refunds go through Apple.
  • Approvals are advisory unless you remove a user's Publish Without Approval permission.
  • Media caps vary by plan. Photos up to 20 MB and video up to 512 MB on Starter; 100 MB and 1.5 GB on Growth and up.
  • Legacy plans. Accounts that started before July 1, 2025 may see fewer analytics features. Downgrading from Scale needs Later's support team.
  • Support is a chatbot and email, typically answered within 1 to 2 business days, with no phone line. Scale promises a reply within 12 hours.
  • Mixed messages on free. The pricing page shows no free plan, while help articles describe one. The help centre also mentions 4 months free on annual plans, while the pricing page says 25% off, which works out to 3.

Alternatives worth a look

  • Planoly: the closest visual planner for Instagram and TikTok, also sold by social set, and it lists X.
  • Buffer: a free plan, a public API, and X, Bluesky and Mastodon.
  • Metricool: built around analytics and reporting, with a free plan and X and Bluesky publishing.
  • Pallyy: also priced per social set, with extra sets at $10 a month and X and Bluesky support.
  • SocialPilot: inbox, approvals and 3 users at a flat price on Standard.
  • PlanPost: adds X, plus YouTube and Threads, from $19.99 a month for 15 accounts and 1,000 posts, with an API; no free plan and no Pinterest.

What users report elsewhere

Recurring themes on public review sites and forums, summarised and linked. These are other people's experiences, not our tests, and we don't turn them into a score.

  • Trustpilot: Recent reviews (May to October 2026) are mostly about billing: renewals charged after a forgotten trial or subscription, refused refunds, and slow support behind a chatbot. The few positive reviews mention reliability, ease of use and one full refund. Read 3 Nov 2026 · open
  • Apple App Store: Visible reviews (2023 to 2025) praise the simple app and its copy and cross-posting tools. Complaints are about auto-posting that disconnects or fails, a clunky interface, and having to link Facebook for auto-publishing, which the latest app notes say no longer applies. • Software Advice: Reviews dated 2019 to 2025 praise the drag and drop calendar and Instagram planning. Recurring complaints are thin analytics, clunky handling of many accounts, failed Instagram posts and cost as accounts grow; some, like carousels not auto-publishing, predate fixes Later has since shipped. Questions people ask

Does Later have a free plan?

Not on the pricing page, which lists only Starter, Growth and Scale with a 14-day free trial. Later's help centre does describe a Free plan aimed at creators, with limited scheduling, a calendar limited to 2 weeks back and forward, Link in Bio and introductory analytics, and cancelling a trial offers a switch to it. Later doesn't publish the Free plan's post limit.

How much does Later cost?

Starter is $25 a month, Growth $50 and Scale $110, or $18.75, $37.50 and $82.50 a month billed yearly. On Growth and Scale, extra social sets cost $15 a month and extra users $5 a month ($11.25 and $3.75 billed yearly).

Is Later good for Instagram?

Instagram is where Later is strongest: a visual feed planner, Auto Publish for posts, carousels, Reels and business-profile Stories, first comments and Link in Bio. Instagram's API still limits it: auto-published Reels use original audio only, Stories with stickers, links or music need notification publishing, and carousels stop at 10 items.

Can Later post to X (Twitter)?

No. Later stopped connecting new X accounts on July 30, 2025 and ended X publishing on August 28, 2025. Bluesky and Mastodon aren't supported either.
