How to schedule posts on X (and what the X API costs now)

Where X lets you schedule posts natively (X Pro, Media Studio, the Ads Composer), what can't be scheduled, and how X's 2026 pay-per-use API pricing affects third-party schedulers.

Facts checked 25 Oct 2026

The short version

X documents three places where you can schedule posts: X Pro, Media Studio and the Ads Composer. Long posts can't be scheduled. Third-party schedulers now pay X per post through its API, which is why some of them charge extra for X or limit it.

Schedule in X Pro

X Pro (formerly TweetDeck) has scheduling built in:

  1. Write your post and choose Schedule post.
  2. Pick a date and time.
  3. To see what's queued, add a Scheduled column.

You can schedule for each account you manage in X Pro. It can't schedule direct messages. X lists X Pro among its Premium features, and which Premium tier includes it has varied, so check X's current Premium page before you pay for it.

Schedule in Media Studio

Media Studio's compose dialog has a Schedule button. X's FAQ notes a limit of 1,000 draft or scheduled posts per account.

Schedule in the Ads Composer

In ads.x.com, open the Composer tab, use the arrow next to Post, pick a date and time, then Schedule. Find the queue under the Posts tab with the filter set to Scheduled. Posts made here don't have to be ads.

What about the normal x.com composer?

Many guides describe a calendar icon in the regular composer and say you can schedule up to 18 months ahead. We could not find this documented in X's own Help Center, so we can't confirm the rules or which accounts get it. If you see the calendar icon, it works the same way: pick a date, a time, and confirm.

What can't be scheduled

Long posts. X's Help Center says posts over 280 characters, a Premium feature, can't be saved as drafts or scheduled on the web. Keep scheduled posts within 280: the character counter uses X's own weighting, where every link counts as 23 characters and emoji count as 2.

Why X costs schedulers more now

On 6 February 2026, X moved its API to pay-per-use credits for new developers. Since 20 April 2026, X charges:

API actionPrice per request
Create a post$0.015
Create a post that contains a URL$0.20
Summoned reply$0.01

The jump for posts with links is the one that matters: a scheduler sharing blog posts pays more than thirteen times as much per post. That cost ends up in what you pay, which is why X support varies so much between tools. The API changelog tracks these changes as X announces them.

Questions people ask

Can I schedule a long post on X?

No. X's Help Center says posts longer than 280 characters (a Premium feature) can't be saved as drafts or scheduled on the web.

How much does it cost a scheduler to post through the X API?

Under X's pay-per-use pricing, effective 20 April 2026, creating a post costs $0.015 per request and creating a post that contains a URL costs $0.20.
