How to schedule Bluesky posts
Bluesky has no documented built-in scheduler. How scheduling works on Bluesky, which tools support it, and the limits they work within.
The short version
Bluesky's own documentation describes no way to schedule a post. When Bluesky wrote about scheduling on its blog in July 2024, it pointed people to Buffer. So on Bluesky, scheduling means using a third-party tool.
How scheduling works on Bluesky
A Bluesky post is a record written to your account at the moment it's created. The API has no "publish later" option. A scheduler stores your post and creates it at the chosen time. That's also why the scheduler, not Bluesky, decides what happens if a scheduled post fails.
Limits a scheduler works within
| Rule | Limit |
|---|---|
| Post length | 300 characters (graphemes) |
| Images | Up to 4 per post, each with its own alt text |
| Writes per account | 5,000 points an hour, 35,000 a day (a new post costs 3) |
| Uploads | 50 MB per file at the server level |
These are the limits on Bluesky's own servers. Accounts hosted elsewhere on the network may have different ones. In practice you won't come close: the write limit allows over 1,600 posts an hour.
Picking a tool
Several schedulers in our directory publish to Bluesky. The Bluesky hub lists them, cheapest first. Check your draft against the 300-character limit with the character counter.
